St. Patrick's Day in the Queen City

Updated: Jan 2, 2019

When it comes to celebrating in the Queen City, we have mastered the art! St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays. We are going way beyond green attire and green beer, so let us tell you why St. Patrick’s Day is one of Charlotte’s Finest!

PARADE READY

You will want to arrive in Uptown early to park and get a good spot to watch all of beauty of Charlotte’s 21st-annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This is an event people of all ages enjoy featuring Irish dancers, bagpipers, leprechauns, Celtic dancers, and so much more. The parade starts promptly at 11 a.m. and moves down Tryon Street beginning at Third Street and finishing at Stonewall. It really is a must see experience at least once. 📸: cltstories

TURNING THE RIVER GREEN

This popular event, officially called the Green River Revival, is most known for the moment when they turn the river green. It really is a sight! But, USNWC also has some other really fun events throughout the day that add to it’s appeal. In the morning, green dye is released as participants take part of the Color Me Green 5K Trail Run. Other outdoor events are available throughout the day. Toward the afternoon and evening Shamrock your heart out with live music from the River Jam Stage. Usually music accompanies the river color change. It really is a place where you can go enjoy the entire day! 📸: @usnwc

WORLD’S LARGEST PUB CRAWL

I bet you’re thinking, really the “WORLD’S” biggest pub crawl? As far as we know it is, and with usually about 20,000 attendees for the Rich & Bennett’s St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl it sounds like it is to us. With “the crawl” being the 17th annual, Uptown #CLT will be overflowing with a sea of green t-shirts. The t-shirt is the key, as it is your ticket into all the fun, and can be purchased online. 📸: @richandbennett

LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT

Queen City celebrates St. Patrick’s Day by turning the city green! Several of the buildings and Romare Bearden Park stitch their lights to flood the city with a pretty emerald glow. Its always such a beautiful tribute to see the lights changed to reflect the holiday! 📸: @cltsfinestproperties

THE CELTIC FESTIVAL

Celebrate all things Celtic by enjoying live music (Celtic Echoes, Thistledown Tinkers, Erin Tide, Jamie Laval, Stirling Bridge), historical demonstrations, delicious eats, beer, arts, crafts and reenactments of historic Celtic warriors. Make sure you bring cash for food and the extras, but general admission is required. Really it’s a fun-filled day of Celtic celebration with something for any age group. 📸: @lattaplantation
